Eighteenth to 19^th century British artist Joseph Mallord William Turner painted in the Romantic style, depicting dramatic natural landscapes in a very subjective way.

Accepted into the prestigious British Royal Academy of Art at age 14, his successful career enabled him to travel across Europe often, where he painted scenes like this watercolor in the SAM Collection, Cologne from the River.
